people, and time
When Cam first showed up, her tail stayed hidden for a while. These days, it’s wagging so insanely it wipes the magnets off the bottom half of the fridge at least twice a day. My boots are feeling pretty light too. Time (and the surprising presence of good, good people) work wonders.
When you’re going through something terrible, time and the future are usually the last two things you want to marvel at. Getting out of bed tomorrow is enough to think about. But, in the midst of it, there’s always one person who has the friendly audacity to remind you that “time heals” or some crap like that. That line is up there with all that other torturous advice that’s so awful to hear at the time but really the most true in the end, like “hair grows back.” It’s a true statement but not at all helpful. Your hair is still insane and you’ve still got to go out in public.
People sure can mess things up. But people, and time, can also make things so, so good.
