in love
Like some kind of crazed adoptive mother, I want to know as much as I can about Camille’s former life. So, I did some hardcore googling today and stumbled upon this photo of Cami as a 4 month old puppy posted on MySpace by her first foster (yes, MySpace). Look how tiny! My heart is now in a permanent state of melting.
Girlfriend’s records say she was born in 2007 but MySpace says the picture was posted November 2006. So, if MySpace is correct (and of course it is), she’s 5 and a half years old!
We went on a date to the Silverlake Dog Park yesterday. She definitely deserved it after how patient she’s been these past two weeks as I’ve been very busy. Lately, because I’m running from one thing to another, her walks have been short and kind of stressful. And she was such a trooper on our trip to Palm Springs last weekend!
Last weekend, we left her in our hotel room in Palm Springs while we went to dinner. When we came back, she acted as though she was sure we had left her in that hotel room to be alone forever. She was jumping around, licking our ankles. She responds with this same enthusiasm whether I’ve been gone for days or minutes. I read somewhere that it’s helpful for a dog with separation anxiety to say a phrase when you leave and then to say another phrase when you return. For Camille, I say “I’ll be back!” in a chirpy voice when I’m leaving and, when I’ve returned, “I’ll always come back.”
I think she’s starting to believe it.
