I’ve been asking a lot of questions about my life over the last few months. Some of the questions have been keeping me up at night. Some of them have just been sitting, suspended on the pages of my journal.

In the last few days, all of a sudden, I’ve been getting a lot of answers, or wonderful opportunities, anyway. Things are moving and changing pretty quickly.

This song feels good, along with everything else right now.

Here are some images from our coworker time this morning. I’m in a bit of a mood (a hard-to-keep-on-task kind of mood). I spent the first portion being awkward in front of the camera for Shannon and finishing up the package I’m sending to my Memphis penpal today. I’m particularly pumped about this parcel because, yes, I sewed that paper. Right on. Also, check out my baby ponytail down there. Hair’s growin’ out. I’m not sure where I’m going with it. But it’s kind of a fun way to measure the passing of time. Plus, haircuts cost money.

The bed doesn’t always look that disheveled. (Yes, it does.) I like my space. And I’d like to believe this is true.

(Also, obviously I still haven’t mailed the antlers. I’m scared!)

I’ve hated everything I’ve photographed lately, including the stuff I’ve blogged. I just hate it. I can’t quite explain why. But I love the above image and similarly can’t explain why.

Me and Los Angeles are currently not on good terms. I’m spending way too much time in my car commuting to work. I never ride my bike anymore. I just paid a $90 parking ticket. And my car got keyed today. I’m over it. I give up. Los Angeles, you are exhausting.

But I feel like I owe it to the state I love to acknowledge that, California, it’s not you–it’s Los Angeles.

I just need to go camping.

I spent a few hours laying on a blanket in my front yard this weekend. I wore cut off jean shorts and no shoes at all, just letting the California sunshine bear down on me until I got the faintest hint of a tan line. (It’s February. It’s looks like this in a lot of the country.)

Foster Huntington’s on the road-esque photos of California and the Pacific coast caught my attention tonight and gave me a serious case of I gotta-get-the-hell-outta-LA-ASAP fever. A hike this week might be nice.

The hardest thing in the world is to simplify your life.

I watched 180° South this week, twice. It was a terrible thing to watch in conjunction with reading Wendell Berry and feeling exhausted and out of place in the city. The words of Yvon Chouinard have been haunting me, keeping me awake at night. There is not much that keeps me awake at night. Lately I’ve felt really burdened to live life better–more simply, more in tune with the days, nature, the earth. I want to live differently and I don’t just mean buying coffee here not there, shopping for clothes here not there. I mean, I want to live differently. I want to raise chickens and grow my own food and trust the rain and not worry about keeping up, making it, staying secure.
